Episode 3×01 Title and Description:

“The Purple Piano Project”

Changes abound as a new school year begins: Will tries to inspire more students to join New Directions; and Sue’s bid for public office deals a potentially devastating blow to the Glee Club.

As a new school year begins, it quickly becomes evident that the more things at McKinley have changed for the kids of New Directions, the more they’ve stayed the same: Santana and Brittany have rejoined the Cheerios; Quinn has quit the Glee Club, and has fallen in with a considerably darker crowd; old relationships have ended, and new ones (like Will and Emma’s) have begun; and Finn still finds himself the target of Slushee facials compliments of the school’s hockey team. Meanwhile, as Sue embarks on a political campaign, she finds herself trailing in the polls. To boost her flagging numbers she announces her new platform, which involves cutting all public school funding for arts programs; almost immediately, her popularity among voters begins to rise.

As Will sets his sights on taking New Directions back to (and winning) Nationals, he charges the kids with helping to bolster the club’s dwindling enrollment, but discovers he may need to break his own rules in order to achieve his objective. As Sue’s latest ploy to destroy the Glee Club finds traction, Will takes matters into his own hands, but encounters mixed results. Meanwhile, inspired by their Broadway experience, Kurt and Rachel set their sights on colleges… only to discover they aren’t as uniquely talented as they had always assumed. Santana discovers she has a new and surprising adversary in the form of Becky Johnson; and a former show-choir competitor enrolls at McKinley, receiving a lukewarm reception from all but one of the club’s male singers.

My wonderful mother just got Miss Sammie and I Kindles for our birthday, so of course, we need some cute covers for them.  🙂

My first stop was to check out Etsy for some crafty, handmade fabric covers.  In addition to finding a ton that are reasonably priced (both slip covers and book-style), I also found some sewing patterns for making your own.  I recently purchased a crochet pattern for making coffee cozies, and I LOVED it.  I’ve already made like four — they’re quick and easy and I can sell them if I want.

Check out some of my favorites below:

Here are some of the coolest and most awesome pics/experiences we had at the convention.  🙂

This past weekend, Miss Sammie and I attended the FAN-tabulous Harry Potter Convention, LeakyCon, at Universal Studios’ Royal Pacific Hotel.  LeakyCon is hosted by the equally awesome Potter fansite, The Leaky Cauldron, which we’ve been following for years.  So, when we found out this this massive fan convention was being held right here in Orlando, and coinciding with the theatrical release of HPatDH Part 2, we knew we simply HAD to go!

One of the best parts of these types of conventions is seeing all of the crazy things that fans come up with to wear.  Obviously, being the HUGE fans that we are, we came up with a few pretty awesome outfits, as well.

Whilst out and about recently, I happened to stumble upon a couple of fabulous finds for my shopaholic-on-the-cheap needs.  Lately, with my funds running extremely low (damn you, grad school!), I only buy things if they’re on sale, if I buy anything at all.  So when I stumble upon a whole store of discounted/cheap goodies, I get SUPER excited.

So, imagine my sheer glee when I walked in to Charming Charlie while at Florida Mall with my Mom.  It’s almost entirely accessories, all organized neatly by color.  There are some clothes and shoes, as well, but most importantly, it’s all very reasonably priced.  They literally have everything you could possibly imagine — I spent about 15-20 minutes in there and didn’t come close to looking at everything.  I can’t wait to go back!

Check out this video about Charming Charlie!

The other store I almost went crazy in was Home Goods, which I didn’t get a chance to explore in depth because the Man Friend was with me, and he can  only tolerate extreme girliness in small doses.  It’s similar to Burlington Coat Factory or Ross — in fact, it appears to be owned by TJ Maxx, which means everything is at discounted prices.  In the 10 minutes I was in there, I found an adorable coffee cup for $3.00 (Man Friend: “Do you really need another coffee cup?”  Me: “For $3, I will always need another coffee cup.”) and a GORGEOUS apron for only $9.00.  NINE dollars.  That is insane.  Similar styles could cost up to $30 or $40 easily.  Suffice it to say, I definitely need to go back soon, preferably with a couple girl friends in tow.

As part of the Magic is Might Experience , Potterheads all over the world are doing their part to “Leave the Scar.”  By posting digital Post-Its with official Rebellion messages or photos of actual physical Post-Its, fans of the series can earn points and hopefully, secure themselves a surprise.  From the creators of Wizarding Life and Wrock Box, Magic is Might is ” a real time look at the Ministry’s role in the events of book seven. It’s meant to be a fun, educational and interactive experience through the use of news, puzzles, text and voice messages, emails and more. More detailed information can be found here. Valentine’s Day is Miss Sammie’s absolute favorite holiday, so as you can imagine, it’s a big occasion for us.  This year, we decided to throw an 80’s-themed, high-school-dance inspired party, complete with tacky decorations, a punch bowl, and of course, cupcakes!

The first thing you need at an 80’s dance is balloons — big, gaudy balloons.  The red heart ones were the cheapest, so we got a bunch of those, with a few cute ones to add some variety (and actual  cuteness).  Then we got some basic decorating kits from the party store, looking specifically for something big and tacky that we could hang from the ceiling and that would take up a lot of space.

I know I’m late posting this, but better late than never, right?

First things first — you should know that my boyfriend’s house is known as Man Center.  It also goes by the House of Sin and Technology.  My point is that very serious, manly stuff goes on there, so when I was asked to bring something for their annual Superbowl Party, I almost decided against my cupcakes, despite that cupcakes are increasingly becoming what I’m known for.  I was thinking that a cool, nacho-themed stadium dish would be appropriate, but one of the other girls had already volunteered to make one (though she ended up not even attending, so boo).

But surprisingly, my cupcakes were requested, as long as they weren’t too girlie and cutesy.  And as you can see, I’m all about girlie and cutesy (even for sporting events), so this was going to take some thinking and some creativity.  For just about no money, I made these adorable, yet non-girlie Superbowl cupcakes with stuff I already had lying around my house.
